Small-bowel involvement in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia


Resumen

Se presentan las imágenes de cápsula endoscópica y enteroscopia de la afectación de intestino delgado de una mujer de 58 años con telangiectasia hemorrágica hereditaria. Se trata de una enfermedad rara caracterizada por telangiectasias y malformaciones arterio-venosas. La implicación sintomática del intestino delgado ocurre en hasta el 30% de los enfermos. Este caso muestra la importancia del estudio completo del intestino delgado en la telangiectasia hemorrágica hereditaria, mediante cápsula endoscópica o enteroscopia. La enteroscopia permite también terapéutica, con el impacto que tiene en la mejora de la calidad de vida de los pacientes.

We present the images of capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy of the small-bowel involvement in a 58-year-old woman with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. This is a rare disease characterized by telangiectasias and arteriovenous malformations. Symptomatic involvement of the small bowel occurs in up to 30% of patients. This case shows the importance of the exhaustive study of the small bowel in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, with capsule endoscopy or enteroscopy. The enteroscopy also allows the treatment of lesions, with the impact it has on improving the quality of life of patients.
